22nd Specialization Course in International Criminal Law for Young Penalists

Two prosecutors from the Office of the Attorney General participated physically, between 12-17 June 2023, in the ‘22nd Specialization Course in International Criminal Law for Young Penalists ‘M. Cherif Bassiouni’, held in Syracuse, Italy.  The intensive one-week course focused primarily on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Genocide Convention.

The director of the course was the renowned Professor William Schabbas, professor of international law at Middlesex University in London and professor emeritus of international criminal law and human rights at Leiden University and honorary chairman of the Irish Centre for Human Rights at the National University of Ireland, Galway.  Other speakers in this course were Professor Leila Saddat, Special Adviser on Crimes Against Humanity to the ICC Prosecutor, Professor Chile Eboe-Osuji, Former President and Judge of the International Criminal Court, and Judge Carmel Agius, former President of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals and former President of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia.

Both prosecutors were successful in the written and oral examination held at the end of the course and were awarded with a diploma.
